Here's a piece of art that happens when I get fed up with something specific I'm trying to draw, flip the page and then start doodling ....without anything specific in mind, just my hand drawing a picture without me actually thinking about it. It really irks me that these tend to be my best drawings.
I finished the pencil sketch in short order, looked at it and said, "I should ink and color this!" So I did... All the inking was done on the computer, w/ painter‘s pen tool, my favorite method. I actually went through the effort to thicken the lines that are on the forced perspective "big" stuff, but I don't know if anyone will notice....
Then I did the coloring and shading in Painter with the watercolor brush. (my fave) Then I ran it through Photoshop for some effects and color adjustment.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I don't usually do backgrounds, and this one is decent, though it has a few perspective and shading problems. The forced perspective/foreshortening on the character is kinda extreme and not at all perfect. My biggest problem was the legs, and planting them to the ground, as well as trying to get them right in perspective. I'm not all that good with lighting and shading, but I think this is a step in the right direction towards developing my lighting skills.
Also, this character is roughly based around the late Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. I just re-watched a bunch of his films recently, so I was on a Toshiro kick.
